Multiple villages in Rakhine State’s Kyaukphyu Township have suffered extensive damage from continuous aerial bombardment by the military council forces. On March 7 at approximately 2:00 PM, the military council conducted an airstrike using a fighter jet on Kwattin village in the Thitpoke Taung area, resulting in the destruction of at least 35 houses. According to local residents, previous airstrikes had already targeted Ugyin village, and now Kwattin village has also come under attack. The military’s aerial assaults have led to widespread destruction of civilian homes and infrastructure in these communities.
On March 6, Ugyin village endured two separate airstrikes, one at noon and another in the evening, carried out by military council fighter jets. These attacks resulted in the destruction of more than 170 houses. Local residents had already fled their homes more than 10 days prior due to ongoing conflicts, which fortunately prevented civilian casualties. The combined aerial attacks by the military council on Ugyin and Kwattin villages in Kyaukphyu Township have destroyed over 200 homes in total. Additionally, on March 6, the military council forces conducted drone strikes on Wa village in Sittwe Township, destroying 35 houses.
Currently, fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in both Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships. The military council has been deliberately targeting civilian residential areas in their aerial bombing campaigns. According to local sources, the full extent of injuries and damages remains unclear due to disrupted communication lines in the area. The military council’s systematic targeting of civilian infrastructure represents a concerning pattern of attacks against non-military targets in the region, forcing local populations to flee their homes and causing extensive damage to civilian properties.
