Multiple villages in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, have suffered extensive damage as the military council continues to conduct aerial bombardments in the region. On March 7 at approximately 2:00 PM, the military council launched an air strike using a fighter jet on Kwattin village in the Thitpoke Taung area, resulting in the destruction of at least 35 houses by fire. According to local residents, the military council had also conducted aerial attacks on U Kyin village in previous days, causing significant destruction to civilian properties.
On March 6, U Kyin village was targeted twice – once at noon and again in the evening – by fighter jet attacks, leading to the destruction of more than 170 houses. Local sources report that villagers had evacuated to safer locations more than 10 days prior, anticipating potential conflict in the area, which prevented civilian casualties. However, due to disrupted communication lines, detailed information about the situation remains limited. The military council’s aerial attacks have specifically targeted civilian areas, despite the absence of active fighting in these locations at the time of the bombardments.
In Sittwe Township, Wa village was also attacked by military council forces using drones on March 6, resulting in the destruction of 35 houses. Currently, fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in both Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships. Local residents and ethnic armed organizations report that the military council is deliberately targeting civilian homes in their aerial bombing campaigns. The combined attacks on U Kyin and Kwattin villages in Kyaukphyu Township have resulted in the destruction of more than 200 houses, devastating local communities and forcing residents to flee their homes. These attacks represent a continuing pattern of the military council’s use of airpower against civilian targets, causing widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and displacement of local populations.
