Multiple villages in Rakhine State’s Kyaukphyu Township have suffered extensive damage from continuous aerial bombardment by the military council forces. On March 7 at approximately 2:00 PM, the military council conducted an airstrike using a fighter jet on Kwattin village in the Thetpoke Taung area, resulting in the destruction of at least 35 houses by fire. While local residents had managed to evacuate before the attack, the full extent of casualties remains unclear due to disrupted communication systems in the area, according to local sources.
Prior to this incident, on March 6, the military council launched two separate aerial attacks on U Kyin village during both daytime and evening hours, burning down more than 170 houses. Local residents had already been displaced from their homes for over 10 days due to ongoing conflicts in the region. The combined aerial attacks by the military council have now destroyed more than 200 houses across U Kyin and Kwattin villages in Kyaukphyu Township. Additionally, on March 6, the military council conducted drone strikes on Wa village in Sittwe Township, resulting in the destruction of 35 houses by fire.
Currently, fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in both Sittwe and Kyaukphyu Townships. The military council has been deliberately targeting civilian homes with repeated airstrikes. According to local residents, these aerial attacks are not directed at actual combat zones but are intentionally targeting civilian residential areas. The military council’s actions demonstrate a pattern of deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure rather than military targets, causing widespread destruction of civilian properties and forcing residents to flee their homes. The ongoing attacks have created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with hundreds of families displaced and their homes reduced to ashes.
