Multiple villages in Rakhine State’s Kyaukphyu Township have suffered extensive damage from continuous aerial bombardments by the military council forces. On March 7 at approximately 2 PM, the military council conducted an airstrike using a fighter jet on Kwattin village in the Thitpoke Taung area, resulting in the destruction of more than 35 houses. While local residents had managed to evacuate before the attack, the exact extent of casualties remains unclear due to disrupted communication systems in the area, according to local sources.
Prior to this incident, on March 6, the military council launched two separate aerial attacks on U Kyin village during both daytime and evening hours, destroying more than 170 houses. Local residents had already fled their homes over ten days ago due to ongoing conflicts in the region, fearing for their safety. The combined aerial attacks by the military council have now resulted in the destruction of more than 200 houses across U Kyin and Kwattin villages in Kyaukphyu Township.
Additionally, on March 6, the military council conducted drone strikes on Wa village in Sittwe Township, burning down 35 houses. Currently, fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in both Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships. The military council has been deliberately targeting civilian homes with repeated aerial attacks. Local residents have been forced to abandon their properties and belongings to seek refuge in safer areas, as reported by local sources. The military council’s systematic targeting of civilian areas has led to widespread displacement and destruction of civilian infrastructure in the region.
