The military council conducted an airstrike on Kwattin village in Rakhine State’s Kyaukphyu Township at around 2 PM on March 7, using a fighter jet. The attack resulted in the destruction of at least 35 houses in Kwattin village, according to local residents. The village, located in the Thitpoke Taung sub-township area, was targeted in the aerial bombardment, though fortunately, civilian casualties were avoided as local residents had preemptively evacuated due to ongoing conflicts in the area.
Additionally, on March 6, the military council launched two separate airstrikes on Ugyin village during noon and evening hours, resulting in the destruction of more than 170 houses. According to local sources, residents had already fled their homes due to fighting in the previous week, preventing any civilian casualties. Local residents reported that the military council deliberately targeted civilian homes despite the absence of active combat in the area. The military council’s forces also attacked Wa village in Sittwe Township with drone strikes on March 6, destroying 35 houses.
Currently, fighting continues between the military council forces and the Arakan Army (AA) in both Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships, with the military council deliberately targeting civilian residential areas in their aerial attacks. The military council’s air strikes have resulted in the destruction of more than 200 houses in total across Ugyin and Kwattin villages in Kyaukphyu Township, forcing local residents to flee their homes and seek shelter elsewhere. The pattern of attacks demonstrates the military council’s strategy of targeting civilian infrastructure, even in areas where there is no active combat, causing widespread displacement and destruction of civilian property.
