The military council has conducted aerial attacks in Kawkareik Township, Karen State, and Naung Cho Township, Northern Shan State, using heavy bombs including chemical weapons. In Kawkareik Township, military jets dropped 500-pound bombs targeting the main road of Laung Kine village and lower part of Kawphaung village in Taung Kya Inn village tract. On April 21, at 2:30 PM, two fighter jets dropped two 500-pound bombs in the area.
One bomb exploded in a rubber plantation behind a newly constructed shop building near Samin Dut village along Laung Kine village road, destroying the building but causing no casualties. Another bomb fell in the lower part of Kawphaung village. According to local revolutionary sources, the military council conducted approximately twenty aerial attacks dropping around fifty bombs in Kawkareik in a single day on April 21.
In Naung Cho Township, Northern Shan State, the military council also conducted airstrikes using chemical weapons near Taung Kham village. On April 20, around 1 PM, they dropped three chemical bombs on areas where the Danu People’s Liberation Army (DPLA) and their allies from TNLA were operating, followed by four more chemical bombs at 3:06 PM, totaling seven chemical bombs. As a result of the chemical attacks, several revolutionary fighters who inhaled the toxic gas experienced symptoms including dizziness, vomiting, and decreased blood pressure. Despite the military council’s announcement of a ceasefire, they continue to use internationally prohibited chemical weapons in their attacks, not only in Taung Kham but also in other areas where revolutionary forces are present, according to DPLA. The fighting between TNLA, DPLA forces and military council troops continues to date due to the military’s ongoing aerial bombardment, artillery shelling, and chemical weapon attacks in the Taung Kham village area.
