According to a representative from the Yesagyo Township Info Committee, three civilians were killed instantly and many others were injured when the military council conducted an unprovoked aerial bombardment on Ngathayauk village in the river island area of Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. The attack occurred around 1:15 PM on August 31st, with military aircraft targeting the civilian area without any ongoing conflict in the region.
Speaking to Yangon Modern News, the committee official detailed that the military’s aerial assault was a sudden attack on the village without any preceding battle or confrontation. The current death toll stands at three, but there are concerns this number could rise as many of the wounded sustained severe injuries. The official emphasized that among the injured are several critical cases requiring immediate medical attention, though the exact number of casualties cannot yet be confirmed due to the ongoing emergency situation.
Local residents are reportedly seeking shelter in secure locations, fearing additional attacks from the military council. Community members have pointed out that such aerial bombardments on civilian areas without any military engagement constitute violations of international law and amount to war crimes. The situation has created significant displacement and humanitarian concerns in the area, with injured civilians requiring urgent medical care while simultaneously dealing with the threat of further military actions. The attack has highlighted the ongoing pattern of violence against civilian populations by the military council, which continues to target residential areas without military necessity or distinction between civilian and military targets.
