On the morning of May 10, an aerial attack by the military council’s armed helicopters in Thone Pan Hla village, Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, resulted in the death of three civilians, including a 10-year-old fourth-grade student, while two others were injured, according to local residents. The aerial assault occurred during a time when there was no active fighting in the area and villagers were going about their normal daily activities.
Despite the military council’s announcement of a temporary nationwide ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, they have continued to conduct aerial attacks, drone strikes, and military operations throughout the country. The attack on Thone Pan Hla village serves as further evidence that the military council’s ceasefire declaration has no practical effect on the ground.
According to local residents, the military council conducted indiscriminate attacks on the village using armed helicopters, targeting civilian residential areas without any specific military objectives. The child killed in the attack was a fourth-grade student who was still pursuing his education, and the other two deceased were also civilians. The two injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment. This incident demonstrates the military council’s continued aggression against civilians despite their proclaimed ceasefire, highlighting the ongoing violence against Myanmar’s civilian population.
