The terrorist military council conducted an aerial bombing using a Y-12 aircraft on a forest monastery located between Pauk and Myaing Townships in Magway Region, resulting in significant damage to the ordination hall and dhamma hall, according to TYK guerrilla force member Saw Gyi who confirmed the incident to Yangon Modern News Agency. The attack occurred around 3 PM on August 15, with the military forces dropping six bombs on the monastery complex despite there being no active fighting in the area.
During the attack, while monks and novices fortunately escaped injury, the ordination hall and dhamma hall suffered substantial damage from the bomb explosions. TYK guerrilla force member Saw Gyi explained that two bombs directly hit the ordination hall and dhamma hall, causing severe structural damage to these religious buildings. He further noted that military columns had suddenly withdrawn from the Yaypa area toward the west, with a significant number of troops involved in the movement. The bombing occurred without any provocation or military engagement in the vicinity.
Similarly, on the evening of August 12, the terrorist military had previously attacked the same forest monastery using fighter jets and mechanized paratroopers, despite there being no active conflict in the area. Local sources indicate that this systematic targeting of religious buildings is part of the military council’s broader campaign of attacks against civilian targets. The repeated attacks on this particular monastery complex, occurring just days apart, demonstrate an escalating pattern of destruction against religious infrastructure in the region. These attacks have raised serious concerns among local communities about the military’s deliberate targeting of religious sites, which are protected under international humanitarian law.
