According to a statement from a representative of the Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee, buildings within a monastery compound in Magyi Pin Tae village, Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region, were damaged following an aerial bombardment by the military council’s forces using helicopter gunships. The attack occurred in the morning of March 18, when two helicopter gunships from the Meiktila Air Base conducted an offensive operation, dropping eight bombs. While the attack resulted in damage to buildings within the monastery compound and one civilian house, there were no reported casualties, as confirmed by the committee representative.
The military council has been conducting daily aerial attacks with the deliberate intention of demoralizing and intimidating local residents. The Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee has warned civilians to immediately seek shelter in nearby bunkers whenever they hear aircraft or helicopter sounds. It has been observed that military council forces frequently target civilian areas and deliberately destroy religious buildings. The committee emphasized that the military council’s forces have been systematically targeting civilian infrastructure and religious sites as part of their campaign of violence against the local population.
This incident represents the latest in a series of violent attacks by the military council, causing significant concern among local residents. The ongoing aerial attacks have forced local businesses to suspend operations, disrupted students’ education, and caused many residents to flee their homes and seek refuge elsewhere. Local sources indicate that the security situation in Thaung Tha Township may continue to deteriorate, necessitating increased vigilance among the civilian population. The military council’s aggressive actions have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the region, severely impacting daily life and the social fabric of local communities.
