A monastery in Magyi Pin Tae village, Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region, was damaged after being bombed by the military council’s helicopter gunships, according to a representative from the Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee. The attack occurred in the early morning of March 18, when two military helicopters from the Meiktila Air Base dropped eight bombs on the area. While the aerial assault resulted in damage to several buildings within the monastery compound and destroyed one civilian house, fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported in the incident.
The representative from the Thaung Tha Township Public Movement Committee confirmed that the military council deliberately conducts daily airstrikes targeting civilian populations. The committee has urged local residents to immediately seek shelter in bomb shelters whenever they hear aircraft or helicopter sounds. Local sources report that the military council frequently targets civilian areas, particularly religious buildings, schools, hospitals, and residential homes in their attacks. This pattern of deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure has become increasingly common in the region.
Due to these ongoing aerial attacks by the military council, local residents live in constant fear and many have been forced to abandon their homes and properties to seek safety elsewhere. The Thaung Tha region has experienced frequent air strikes, putting civilians at constant risk of attack. Local residents must remain extremely vigilant about their security and have developed various safety protocols to protect themselves from these indiscriminate attacks. The situation has created a persistent atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the local population, who must constantly be prepared for potential aerial assaults while trying to maintain their daily lives under these challenging circumstances.
