
A clash erupted between resistance forces and military council troops in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, on April 25 at around 8 AM. The confrontation occurred near Nyaungwun village when military council forces from Koetaungbo encountered resistance forces. According to local sources, the military council suffered casualties during the engagement, though the exact number of casualties could not be immediately confirmed. Following the clash, the military council troops retreated to Kawlin town at approximately 9 AM.
The same military council unit had previously conducted operations in the area on April 9, during which they committed grave human rights violations. Moving about two miles northeast from Koetaungbo, they shot and killed two civilians from Kainma village, identified as Ko Nan Lwin and Ma Ri Ri Oo, who were working in their peanut fields at the time. Additionally, the military council forces arrested and took away 15 other villagers from Kainma village to Koetaungbo.
Local residents report that the military council forces have been conducting frequent operations in the area, perpetrating violence against innocent civilians. The local population lives in constant fear while going about their daily work, facing severe insecurity in their lives and property. The fate of the 15 civilians who were arrested remains a serious concern for the community. The military council’s continued operations have created an atmosphere of terror and uncertainty in the region, with civilians being subjected to arbitrary violence and detention while attempting to carry out their agricultural work and daily activities.
