The military council troops have arrested 10 civilians from West Gangaw village and Shun Shi village in Gangaw Township, Magway Region. On August 3rd at around 10 PM, soldiers from Infantry Battalion 50 arrived at Laung Htaung military checkpoint with two vehicles before proceeding to Pyar village, reaching there at midnight. At approximately 3 AM on August 4th, these forces, combined with soldiers stationed at Shauk Pin village, entered West Gangaw village and Shun Shi village, initially detaining 12 civilians.
Two women among those arrested were later released at the We Love Gangaw bridge, while the remaining 10 civilians were taken away. The exact ages and gender composition of those still in detention remain unclear. Local sources indicate that this was not a military recruitment operation but rather followed the pattern of previous arrest operations in the area. The specific reasons for the arrests have not been clearly established, according to local residents.
After conducting the arrests, the military council forces split into two columns and withdrew from the area at around 6:30 AM. One column returned to their camp in Shauk Pin village, while the other headed back toward Infantry Battalion 50. The column from Infantry Battalion 50 was accompanied by three vehicles up to the We Love Gangaw bridge, where they released the two women before continuing with the remaining 10 detainees. The current whereabouts and condition of the detained civilians remain unknown, as the military council continues its pattern of arbitrary arrests and intimidation of local populations in the Gangaw Township area.
