According to military sources in Naypyidaw, there are plans to increase airstrikes across Myanmar. While the military council has announced a ceasefire until the end of May, they continue to conduct aerial attacks, particularly in areas controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), including Mantong, Namhkam, and Mong Ngaw townships. These ongoing military operations have resulted in civilian casualties despite the declared ceasefire.
The TNLA has officially reported that one civilian has been killed and five others injured due to these airstrikes and artillery attacks. Reports indicate that these military operations are being supported by business tycoons within the ASEAN region. The military council continues to utilize regional support to carry out attacks against civilians, demonstrating a pattern of violence that contradicts their public statements about seeking peace.
The military council’s aerial attacks have been targeting civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, hospitals, and religious buildings, resulting in continued civilian casualties and displacement. International human rights organizations have declared these attacks as violations of international humanitarian law and potential war crimes. The military’s actions show a systematic approach to targeting civilian populations, despite international condemnation and calls for cessation of violence. These operations have caused significant civilian suffering and continue to destabilize various regions across Myanmar, particularly in areas where ethnic armed organizations maintain strong presence and support from local communities.
