According to a statement from the KNU Myeik-Dawei District, a military council supply convoy carrying rations and ammunition to the Maw Taung area along the Thai-Myanmar border in Tanintharyi Region was ambushed, resulting in the death of 5 soldiers and the destruction of 2 vehicles. The incident occurred on August 9, 2023, between Theinkone and Chaunghnit Pauk villages in Tanintharyi Township.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Battalion 11 and allied revolutionary forces intercepted the military council convoy that was attempting to transport supplies and ammunition as part of efforts to regain control of the Maw Taung area. During the engagement, five military council soldiers were killed and at least 10 others were wounded. Additionally, two military council supply vehicles were destroyed in the attack.
Revolutionary forces managed to seize several small arms and two damaged Kamikaze suicide drones from one of the overturned military vehicles during the battle. The Maw Taung area represents a strategically important location along the Myanmar-Thai border, where the military council has made repeated attempts to establish control but continues to face strong resistance from revolutionary forces who maintain their defensive positions in the region.
