The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces launched an intense offensive against the Thaibawboe military camp along the Thai-Myanmar border on June 3rd. During the battle, the military council attempted to defend the camp with airstrikes, but a misguided bombing run resulted in the death of 30 of their own troops, according to border military sources. The military council conducted continuous aerial bombardment in an attempt to maintain control of the Thaibawboe camp, but their airstrikes tragically struck their own forces instead of the intended targets.
Following this friendly fire incident, the remaining military council troops surrendered by raising white flags, allowing KNLA and allied forces to completely capture the camp. The revolutionary forces suffered no fatalities during the battle, though four fighters were seriously wounded. With the fall of Thaibawboe camp, the military council now maintains only four remaining camps along the Thai-Myanmar border: Ukayittha, Wawlabyuha Hill, Tithaylae Camp, and Hteekaplae Camp.
The Karen National Union (KNU) has successfully conducted a series of operations throughout March, April, and May, capturing several significant military council positions along the Thai-Myanmar border. These include Pulutoo, Khlayday, Thawbikwee, Mawphatho Camp, Thalae Camp, Maela, Black Do, Mawkee, Bogyoke Aung San Camp, Kanaelay Camp, and Shwe Aye Myaing Camp, with Thaibawboe being their latest conquest. Notably, Thaibawboe camp had previously been captured once before in May 2022 by revolutionary forces led by the Cobra Column and Major Saw Wah.
