A military column of the Myanmar military council suffered heavy casualties when People’s Defense Forces attacked them with barrel mines on the Ngazun-Myotha road in Mandalay Region’s Myingyan District. According to a representative from the Nagani People’s Defense Force-Myingyan, 11 soldiers were killed and multiple others were injured in the attack, with severed limbs reportedly left hanging in nearby bushes. The incident occurred on March 10 at approximately 8:30 AM when a military column of about 100 personnel was moving from Ngazun town toward Myotha.
The attack involved two barrel mines and resulted in 11 military casualties and at least three severe injuries. The explosion caused five legs and three arms to be severed from the soldiers’ bodies, which were found hanging in the surrounding vegetation. A spokesperson from the Nagani People’s Defense Force confirmed that the military column was traveling with a light truck when they were ambushed using guerrilla tactics. The military personnel were reportedly caught between two barrel mines during the attack, and several military helmets were found scattered at the scene. Local civilians who witnessed the aftermath were too afraid to photograph the incident.
Following the attack, surviving military council troops fired indiscriminately in panic, but the People’s Defense Force members managed to withdraw safely without any casualties. About half an hour after the attack, the bodies of the deceased soldiers were transported by light truck toward Gwekun village, while three wounded soldiers were evacuated to Ngazun town via a monastery in Gyo village. Currently, approximately 200 military personnel are stationed at the army base in Myotha town, and due to heightened military tensions in the area, civilians have been warned to avoid locations associated with military council troops and their surrounding areas for their safety.
