Following intense battles in Minhlah Township along the Yangon-Pyay road in Bago Region, where Lieutenant Colonel Zaw Myo Win (Administrative Body Member of Thayarwaddy District), Major Phyo Min Oo (Administrative Body Member of Oaktwin Township), and Police Lieutenant Colonel Soe Khaing were killed, the military council is now preparing for a major offensive using armored vehicles. The clashes began on June 16 around 4 PM when revolutionary forces attacked the military council’s Setkwin Tarsone checkpoint near Oktwin village in Minhlah Township, resulting in fierce fighting.
During these encounters, more than 20 military council personnel, including high-ranking officers, were killed. In response, the military council is now mobilizing forces from the Pyay Regional Military Command, including armored vehicles and new recruits. Military sources confirm they are assembling approximately 500 troops from Thonze, Thayarwaddy, and Letpadan areas to conduct clearance operations. The military is also deploying armored vehicles as part of their attempt to regain control of the Yangon-Pyay road section.
Additionally, seven soldiers from a military council forward base at Pattenlay Monastery in Minhlah Township deserted their post, taking their weapons with them under the pretext of searching for food. Despite the military council’s attempts to capture them with indiscriminate gunfire, they remain at large. The military council has been conducting daily artillery attacks on villages in the area, forcing residents from Pattenlay village, Sinteinchaungpauk village, Thapangyiseik village, and surrounding communities to flee to safer locations. The ongoing artillery bombardment and military operations have created a humanitarian crisis in the region, with civilians continuing to seek refuge from the escalating violence.
