According to military telegrams, despite the terrorist military council increasing security measures since February 24 along the Yangon-Mandalay expressway, old highway, and Bago-Yangon regional borders, small outposts have been attacked by surprise. The National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister Man Win Khaing Than officially issued deployment orders to PDF forces on February 23 regarding control of the Yangon and Bago regions. Following this speech, the military council increased security measures along these routes, but smaller outposts with limited security forces were still attacked, resulting in some casualties and loss of weapons and ammunition according to the military council’s telegraph reports.
Security has been particularly enhanced in urban areas and entry/exit points, with highway police forces and local battalions conducting joint patrols along the expressway and strengthened checkpoints at city entry/exit points. The military has increased security presence especially in Taungoo, Pyay, and Bago cities, along the entire Yangon-Mandalay expressway, Naypyidaw access roads, Yangon Region-Zero Mile, and entry/exit checkpoints on the old Yangon-Bago road. Security checks have become more stringent in these areas. According to the NUG’s statement, attacks on seven military council checkpoints along the old Yangon-Mandalay road in Bago Region resulted in eight military personnel casualties and one revolutionary fighter’s death.
The military council has deployed additional forces and established numerous security outposts, particularly focusing on nighttime surveillance to prevent surprise attacks. The attacked locations included small guard posts along the Yangon-Mandalay railway line in Kyauktaga and Pyay areas, as well as checkpoints along the old Yangon-Mandalay highway. Despite these increased security measures, revolutionary forces have continued to conduct successful operations against military positions, demonstrating the ongoing effectiveness of resistance activities in these strategic areas.
