The Kyeemyindaing Township Administration Committee in Yangon Region has called a special meeting to direct the increase in recruitment of young soldiers, beyond the existing rotational recruitment system. On June 26, Township Administration Committee Chairman Myo Nyi Nyi convened a special meeting attended by various department officials, ward administrators, Pyu Saw Htee members, and informants. During the meeting, the chairman emphasized that the current number of youth recruits through the ward rotation system was insufficient, and instructed to increase recruitment beyond the current quota of two persons per ward.
The meeting highlighted the need for stricter security measures within the township, particularly regarding the monitoring of potential People’s Defense Force (PDF) movements through waterways and ports. The chairman instructed intensified guest registration checks and night patrols, requiring coordination between township security forces, police, ward administrators, and Pyu Saw Htee members. The directive specifically emphasized the need to collect as many new recruits as possible, moving away from the previous limited quota system.
Additional security measures were outlined during the meeting, including enhanced scrutiny of migrants from other townships and specific monitoring of individuals holding identification cards from Sagaing Region, Rakhine State, Magway Region, and Kachin State. The committee also ordered the identification and arrest of individuals involved in political activities, fugitives, and those evading military or police service. These intensified security measures reflect the military council’s increasing efforts to maintain control over the population while expanding their forced recruitment practices in urban areas like Kyeemyindaing Township.
