
Military Council Officer Win Moe Kyaw was killed during fighting in Tanai town, Kachin State, according to his friends who spoke to Yangon Modern News Agency. He died from gunshot wounds during battles on April 2nd, and his body was buried at the frontline area where he fell. Originally from Pyawbwe Township in Mandalay Region, Win Moe Kyaw had attempted to leave the military after the coup, but was forced to continue serving due to threats against his family members by the military council.
A friend of Officer Win Moe Kyaw revealed that while he wanted to leave the military, he faced a 20-year prison sentence if he resigned officially, and feared retaliation against his parents if he attempted to flee. On April 8th, his parents could only hold memorial services without being able to see their son’s body. The Tanai Township area in Kachin State continues to see frequent clashes between Military Council forces and revolutionary forces led by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), with military tensions remaining high according to KIA sources.
The ongoing conflicts in the Tanai region have resulted in civilian casualties, deaths, and forced displacement of local residents. Military Council troops have intensified their operations in the area, forcing villagers to serve as guides and cook for their columns, according to local residents. Additionally, artillery strikes by Military Council forces have caused destruction of civilian homes and properties. The military situation continues to deteriorate as fighting persists between resistance forces and the military council troops, with local civilians bearing the brunt of the violence and disruption to their lives.
