
A military nurse captain from the 33rd Infantry Division Headquarters, Captain Aye Myoe Tun, was killed by sniper fire from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) during ongoing battles in Banmaw, Kachin State. Following the incident that occurred on August 13, his body was transported back to Myitkyina city where he was given a military funeral, according to military sources.
The deceased Captain Aye Myoe Tun was a graduate of Batch 2 from the Military Institute of Nursing and Medical Technology. He was 44 years old at the time of his death. While serving at the 33rd Infantry Division Headquarters, he was deployed to the Banmaw battlefield where he was fatally shot by a KIA sniper during combat operations.
The city of Banmaw in Kachin State has been under attack by KIA-led allied forces since December 2024. As the battle for control of the city enters its ninth month, intense fighting continues between both sides with no signs of de-escalation, according to KIA military sources. Military analysts suggest that the fighting could intensify further due to Banmaw’s strategic importance as a key military location. The ongoing conflict has resulted in sustained military engagement between the opposing forces, with regular reports of intense clashes and casualties on both sides.
