The military has informed the family about the death of retired Captain Aung Pyae Sone Soe, who served as the Ann Township Administrator in Rakhine State, after an eight-month delay. The retired captain was killed during the Arakan Army’s (AA) offensive that captured the entire Ann Township and the Western Command Headquarters in December 2024. He died while resisting alongside military forces during the attack. The deceased retired Captain Aung Pyae Sone Soe is survived by his wife, Theint Thu Thu Aung, and a daughter who is currently studying in the United States.
Both retired Captain Aung Pyae Sone Soe and his wife came from military families, with his wife being particularly supportive of the military. Following the military coup, she had mocked protesters on social media, which led to her being socially ostracized even by her former schoolmates. After retiring from the military and while serving in the General Administration Department, retired Captain Aung Pyae Sone Soe was known for writing posts that labeled the Arakan Army as a terrorist organization and denouncing those who surrendered to the AA as traitors to the country.
