
According to military sources in Naypyidaw, construction companies owned by Aung Pyae Sone, son of Min Aung Hlaing, will receive rights to rebuild government ministry offices and other buildings damaged by the earthquake in Naypyidaw. The Sagaing earthquake that struck on March 28 caused extensive damage across Naypyidaw, Mandalay, Sagaing, Bago regions and Southern Shan State, affecting government buildings, staff housing, roads, and bridges.
Aung Pyae Sone owns numerous businesses including Sky One Construction Company, Bone Myat Pyae Sone, Myanmar Sit Thu Gyi, Min Taya Gyi, Winning Sky, True Golf, Aung Myint Mo Min Insurance Company, shares in MyTel Telecom, Azura Beach Resort, A & M Mahar Company Limited, and Nyein Chan Pyae Sone Manufacturing & Trading Company Limited. He is involved in various business ventures including construction tenders for military and civilian ministries, road and bridge construction projects, electric vehicle imports, and solar panel distribution among many other small, medium and large-scale business operations across Myanmar.
The March 28 earthquake resulted in damage to over 60,000 residential buildings, 3,514 monasteries and nunneries, 2,366 schools, 3,678 government office buildings, 155 bridges, and 5,620 pagodas and religious structures. The Yangon-Naypyidaw-Mandalay expressway suffered damage in 148 locations, and railway lines were also affected. As of April 10, the disaster has claimed 3,649 lives, injured 5,018 people, and left 145 persons missing.
