
At the Defense and Security Council meeting held in Naypyidaw on August 1, military council leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that they had achieved better economic progress than the civilian-elected government. He stated that they had managed to increase GDP by 2.5 percent and dismissed the World Bank’s economic decline predictions as inaccurate due to incomplete data.
According to Min Aung Hlaing’s statement, the total revenue increased from 17,585.55 billion kyats in the 2020-2021 fiscal year under the previous National League for Democracy government to 34,553.50 billion kyats in the 2024-2025 fiscal year under the military council. Additionally, he claimed that the country’s GDP value rose from 108,205.72 billion kyats in the 2020-2021 fiscal year to 160,654.82 billion kyats in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
The military council began implementing the People’s Military Service Law on February 10, 2024, forcing civilians into military service. They have currently conducted 15 batches of military training and established security groups down to the ward and village levels, as revealed by Min Aung Hlaing. The council claims their actions are paving the way for future governments and agreed during the meeting that their initiatives should continue to be implemented. These statements were made during the Defense and Security Council meeting, where they emphasized the necessity of maintaining the momentum of their activities for subsequent administrations.
