At a military council meeting in Naypyidaw, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing criticized the actions of the NLD government. He claimed that although the military had cooperated as much as possible with the NLD government that came to power in 2015, the government failed to convene National Defense and Security Council meetings and carried out activities that were not in accordance with the law.
Min Aung Hlaing alleged there were voting irregularities in the 2020 election and claimed that the military had guided the country toward multi-party democracy through the 2008 Constitution. He mentioned that the 2010 election was held and that there were internal disagreements within the ruling party during the first democratic government term. He also accused the NLD party of opposing the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
Regarding the NLD government period from 2015, he claimed that no Defense and Security Council meetings were held during crucial times for the state, and that they approved provisions that were not in accordance with the law. He also criticized the renaming of the peace conference to the 21st Century Panglong Conference, stating that they had to warn about possible historical complications that could arise.
While stating that the military would hold elections, he noted that previous elections in 2010, 2015, and 2020 were not conducted with complete success, and that even during the AFPFL era, elections were held amid difficulties. He firmly stated that the Constitution provides for elections to be held under the decision of the National Defense and Security Council.
