
Military council leader Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to attend the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, according to Thai media reports. This will mark Min Aung Hlaing’s first visit to Thailand. The meeting is set to take place from April 3 to 4, with Thailand serving as the host country.
The 6th BIMSTEC Summit will be chaired by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Representatives from member countries including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, and Thailand will be in attendance. The summit will focus on discussions regarding regional economic cooperation, trade, transportation, and technological collaboration among member states.
BIMSTEC was established in 1997 to promote cooperation among countries in the Bay of Bengal region. The organization facilitates collaboration between member countries in various sectors including trade, technology exchange, energy cooperation, fisheries, agriculture, communications, and natural disaster management. The upcoming summit represents a significant gathering of regional leaders to discuss mutual interests and development initiatives in the Bay of Bengal region.
