During a meeting with Chinese business leaders in Sichuan Province, China, military council leader Min Aung Hlaing sought assistance from China regarding the stability of the China-Myanmar border region and the resumption of trade activities. He revealed that among the eight border gates between China and Myanmar, only the Muse-Ruili border gate remains operational due to attacks by ethnic armed organizations.
According to the bilateral agreement on border area management and cooperation, there are eight border gates along the China-Myanmar border. However, due to the current security situation, only the Muse-Ruili border gate is functioning, while other trade gates have been forced to suspend operations due to attacks by ethnic armed organizations. The military council leader explained that the border region instability has affected the economies of China’s Yunnan Province, Sichuan Province, and Chongqing Municipal areas.
Min Aung Hlaing emphasized that if the border gates could be reopened, the flow of goods would increase beyond previous levels, and trade routes could be expanded. He urged that priority should be given to cooperation on border region stability and security between the two countries. The current situation has significantly impacted bilateral trade, and since border trade directly supports the socioeconomic lives of people from both countries, he stressed the need for collaborative efforts to restore peace and stability in the border region to resume trading activities.
