At No. 3 Basic Education High School in Pyin Oo Lwin, military council leader Min Aung Hlaing stated that areas experiencing instability in Myanmar are those with poor education, claiming that violence occurs due to low academic achievement and weak critical thinking abilities. He added that these situations are also affecting the socioeconomic lives of local residents in these regions.
Min Aung Hlaing emphasized that civil servants, including education staff, must remain separate from party politics and should be able to distinguish between political affairs and national affairs. He stated that they must fulfill their duties diligently to serve the nation’s interests. According to military sources, the military council leader arrived in Pyin Oo Lwin on June 9 and conducted additional inspections on June 11, staying at a residence in Pyin Oo Lwin during this period.
These statements by the military council leader misrepresent the root causes of the current conflicts in Myanmar, which are actually the result of the military council’s coup and its oppression of civilians. The education sector has also suffered under military council control, with students’ educational opportunities being severely impacted and many teachers forced to leave their positions due to pressure from the military council. The ongoing crisis in Myanmar’s education system is a direct consequence of the military council’s actions rather than a cause of the current unrest, contrary to Min Aung Hlaing’s claims.
