The military council conducted an aerial bombardment on Boekone village in Mattaya Township, Mandalay Region, without any ongoing conflict in the area, according to the People’s Defense Force (PDF) information officer of Mattaya Township. The attack occurred on April 5, 2024, at approximately 2:25 PM when a military council fighter jet from the Meiktila Shantwel Air Base carried out the bombing raid on the village. While no civilian casualties were reported in the aerial attack, authorities are still assessing the extent of damage to residential buildings and properties in the village.
According to the PDF information officer, the military council forces conducted this aerial attack on the civilian residential area without any ongoing battles with resistance forces in the region. This deliberate targeting of civilian areas constitutes a war crime and violates international humanitarian law, further demonstrating the military council’s brutality. The attack represents another instance of the military council’s continued campaign of violence against civilian populations throughout the country.
Boekone village, located in Mattaya Township, is primarily home to residents who make their living through agricultural activities. The military council’s aerial attack has severely disrupted the daily lives of local residents and created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the community. The military council has previously conducted numerous aerial attacks on civilian areas, resulting in deaths and injuries to innocent civilians. This latest attack continues the pattern of indiscriminate violence against civilian populations, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Myanmar as the military council continues its campaign of terror against its own people.
