The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has reported that the military council launched a kamikaze drone attack on Naw Ta Kee Middle School in Paingkyon City, Hpa-an District, Karen State, resulting in injuries to one student and two teachers. The incident occurred around 9:50 AM on September 3rd during regular school hours when students were attending their classes.
The targeted school, identified as Kawthoolei School No. 7082, operates under the Karen Education and Culture Department (KECD). The military council’s drone attack caused significant damage to one school office building and injured three individuals – a student, a male teacher, and a female teacher. According to the KNU Central Committee’s statement, this attack was deliberately carried out during school hours when students were present in the building.
The military council’s targeting of educational facilities and students has created widespread fear and concern among local residents. There are growing concerns about student safety, and educational activities have been severely impacted. Local residents point out that such attacks on educational facilities constitute violations of international law. The deliberate targeting of civilian educational institutions during active school hours demonstrates a concerning pattern of violence against civilian infrastructure and vulnerable populations.
