
The military council conducted an aerial bombardment on a monastery in Kanni village, Kyun Daw town, Kawkareik Township, Karen State during the Thingyan festival, resulting in the death of at least 6 civilians and injuries to more than 20 people, including 4 Buddhist monks, according to local sources. The attack occurred at approximately 11:50 AM on April 15, when military council fighter jets targeted the monastery in Kanni village.
The bombing killed three people who were traveling in a Probox vehicle and three others who were inside the monastery observing Buddhist sabbath on the Thingyan festival day. Additionally, more than 20 people, including 4 Buddhist monks and devotees observing religious practices, sustained severe injuries in the attack. Local residents confirmed that military aircraft continued to circle the area after the initial bombardment.
Since the evening of April 14, the military council has been conducting attacks on villages along the Kyun Daw road in Kawkareik Township using a Howitzer tank. In response, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces have launched offensive operations around the Yinkwe Mountain area near Military Operations Command-12. The military council’s Infantry Battalions 545 and 546, operating from their controlled positions along the Yinkwe Mountain route, have been indiscriminately firing heavy weapons at civilian areas including Haypu Gyi, Kawwalay, Win Pya, Naung Taman, Themin Dut, Taung Kampayeik, Migalun, and Kanni villages.
