Military and local sources report that in Pyay Township, Bago Region, the military council is strengthening security measures at police stations, guard posts, and military outposts with bunkers, bamboo spikes, and concrete fortifications, citing concerns about potential offensive operations by revolutionary forces including the Arakan Army (AA) and People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
Since early March, the military council has been intensifying defensive preparations at their positions throughout Pyay Township, including the District Administrative Office and Police Station No. 1. These preparations include installing bunkers, bamboo spikes, digging defensive trenches, and expanding bomb shelters. The military council has also informed Pyu Saw Htee militia members who have completed training that they will be issued modern weapons.
The military council has increased security checks at entry and exit points to Pyay city and stepped up guest registration inspections in urban wards during nighttime hours. They have expanded patrol operations beyond previous levels and positioned troops throughout the city. The military is also conducting regular powered parachute training exercises in the area, according to local residents.
Within Pyay District, the military council is providing special military training to selected members of the Pyu Saw Htee militia under their control. Upon completion of training, these members will be armed and assigned as city guard forces in their respective towns, according to internal military sources. Local residents have expressed concern that this may lead to increased oppression of civilians by military council forces in the area.
