According to sources from Myanmar Oil and Chemical Enterprise, the military council has ordered a five-fold increase in ammonium nitrate production from fertilizer factories across the country to manufacture high-explosive weapons and bombs for their offensive operations against revolutionary forces nationwide. The military council has been demanding increased production of ammonium nitrate, a key component in the manufacture of drone bombs, aircraft bombs, cluster bombs, and artillery shells. All produced ammonium nitrate is being directly supplied to military weapons production facilities.
Ammonium nitrate is a crucial chemical compound in the production of explosives and bombs, which can primarily be manufactured at fertilizer plants. The military council has also revived the No. 3 Fertilizer Factory (Kyawswa), which had been shut down since 2010 due to natural gas shortages. Since August 2023, this factory has been producing increased amounts of ammonium nitrate raw materials for the manufacture of bombs and high-explosive artillery shells.
Currently, the military council is operating all fertilizer factories at full capacity to produce high-explosive bombs and artillery shells. These facilities include No. 1 Fertilizer Factory (Sale), No. 2 Fertilizer Factory (Kyunchaung), No. 3 Fertilizer Factory (Kyawswa), No. 4 Fertilizer Factory (Myaungdaga), and No. 5 Fertilizer Factory (Kangyidaunt). Revolutionary activists analyze that this increased production of ammonium nitrate indicates the military council’s preparation for intensified offensive operations against resistance forces. The significant increase in production capacity demonstrates the regime’s focus on manufacturing weapons for use against its own people in the ongoing civil conflict.
