According to sources from Myanmar Oil and Chemical Enterprise, the military council has ordered a five-fold increase in ammonium nitrate production from fertilizer factories across the country to manufacture high-explosive weapons and bombs for offensives against revolutionary forces. The military council is ramping up production of various weapons including drone bombs, aircraft bombs, cluster bombs, and artillery shells, necessitating this significant increase in ammonium nitrate production. Ammonium nitrate is a crucial chemical compound used in the manufacture of explosives and bombs, primarily produced by fertilizer factories.
A source from Myanmar Oil and Chemical Enterprise revealed that all fertilizer factories nationwide have been ordered to increase ammonium nitrate production by five times their normal output, with all production being directly supplied to military weapons manufacturing facilities. This increased demand for ammonium nitrate is directly linked to the military council’s expanded production of bombs and artillery shells. Additionally, the No. 3 Fertilizer Factory (Kyawswa), which had been suspended since 2010 due to natural gas shortages, has been reactivated by the military council. Since August 2023, this facility has been producing increased amounts of ammonium nitrate raw materials for the manufacture of bombs and high-explosive artillery shells.
Currently, the military council is operating all fertilizer factories at full capacity to produce high-explosive bombs and artillery shells. These facilities include Fertilizer Factory No. 1 (Sale), Fertilizer Factory No. 2 (Kyunchaung), Fertilizer Factory No. 3 (Kyawswa), Fertilizer Factory No. 4 (Myaungdaga), and Fertilizer Factory No. 5 (Kangyidaunt). Analysts note that this significant increase in ammonium nitrate production indicates the military council’s preparation for intensified operations against revolutionary forces throughout the country. This industrial mobilization represents a concerning escalation in the military council’s capacity to produce weapons for use against civilian populations and resistance forces.
