According to sources from Myanmar Oil and Chemical Enterprise, the military council has ordered a five-fold increase in ammonium nitrate production from fertilizer factories nationwide to manufacture high-explosive weapons and bombs for their offensive operations against revolutionary forces across the country. The military council has specifically demanded increased production of ammonium nitrate, a crucial chemical component needed for manufacturing drone bombs, aircraft bombs, cluster bombs, and artillery shells, ordering production levels to be raised to five times the normal output.
Ammonium nitrate is a key chemical compound essential for bomb and ammunition production, which can only be primarily manufactured at fertilizer plants. Currently, the military council is operating several facilities at full capacity to increase ammonium nitrate production, including Fertilizer Plant No. 1 in Sale, Fertilizer Plant No. 2 in Kyunchaung, Fertilizer Plant No. 3 in Kyawswa, Fertilizer Plant No. 4 in Myaungdaga, and Fertilizer Plant No. 5 in Kangyidaunt.
Notably, the military council has even reactivated Fertilizer Plant No. 3 (Kyawswa), which had been shut down since 2010 due to natural gas shortages. Since August 2023, this plant has been producing ammonium nitrate raw materials specifically for manufacturing bombs and high-explosive artillery shells. Reports indicate that the military council has issued orders for all produced ammonium nitrate to be directly transported to weapons manufacturing facilities. This significant increase in production demonstrates the military council’s intensified efforts to expand their arsenal for use against their own people and resistance forces.
