A military council helicopter attempting to reinforce troops at a football field in Kani town, Sagaing Region, was attacked by resistance forces using drones, resulting in military casualties, according to a KLG PDF Kyauklongyi official. Around 5 PM on March 19, a helicopter carrying approximately 20 soldiers from the Northwest Military Command headquarters in Monywa landed at the Kani football field for troop deployment when resistance forces launched an attack using two Fixed Wings drones, dropping two bombs on the target.
The attack resulted in injuries to soldiers guarding the football field, forcing the helicopter to depart immediately without being able to evacuate the majors and captains stationed in Kani town. The Northwest Military Command commander Myo Min Tun, who had previously studied at Kani High School during his student years, was reportedly extremely angry about the attack, according to the KLG PDF Kyauklongyi official. The attack was carried out jointly by the People’s Defense Force and Strategy 45 KLG PDF drone unit, who have declared their commitment to continue fighting until the complete elimination of the military dictatorship.
Following the attack, at around 6:30 PM, military council troops retaliated by setting fire to civilian homes in Wards 3 and 1 of Kani town. While the exact number of houses destroyed in the fire could not be determined due to the nighttime occurrence, extensive fire damage was reported in both wards. The KLG PDF official further stated that most civilians have already evacuated from Kani town, and military council troops are now conducting night patrols in the area. The situation reflects the ongoing conflict between resistance forces and the military council, with civilians bearing the brunt of military retaliation.
