The military council has forcibly demolished more than 80 houses along the Mandalay-Mattaya road in Kwa Ni Kan village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, using excavators and bulldozers under the pretext of road boundary clearance. According to local sources, the military deployed over 50 personnel and systematically destroyed houses on both the eastern and western sides of the main road over three days from March 4 to March 6.
According to a representative from MDY Revolution, the demolition was carried out without any prior notice to the residents, and homeowners were not even allowed to collect their belongings before the destruction. This has resulted in massive losses for local residents, who lost not only their homes but also furniture, household items, and other valuable possessions. The military’s sudden and forceful action has left many families displaced and without their essential belongings.
The military council also took aggressive measures against civilians who attempted to document the demolition, with armed Pyu Saw Htee members threatening and arresting some residents who tried to take photographs of the destruction. This intimidation has made it difficult for locals to document the destruction of their homes and property. The military’s actions demonstrate a complete disregard for civilian property rights and have caused significant hardship for the affected communities, who were given no opportunity to prepare for or protest against the demolition of their homes.
