The military council has forcibly demolished more than 80 houses along the Mandalay-Mattaya road in Kwa Ni Kan village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, using excavators and bulldozers under the pretext of road expansion. According to local sources, military council troops numbering over 50 personnel systematically destroyed houses on both the eastern and western sides of the main road over three days from March 4 to March 6.
According to a representative from MDY Revolution, the demolition was carried out without any prior notice to the residents, and homeowners were not even allowed to collect their belongings before their houses were destroyed. The sudden demolition has resulted in significant property losses for local residents, with many families now facing housing difficulties. The military council claimed the houses were built on road reserve land, though residents dispute this assertion.
Furthermore, it has been reported that the military forces arrested people who attempted to photograph the demolition process, and armed Pyu Saw Htee members threatened those trying to document the destruction. Due to these intimidation tactics, local residents have been unable to properly document the destruction of their homes or file formal complaints. The military council’s actions have left numerous families displaced and without proper compensation or alternative housing arrangements, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian concerns in the region.
