The military council has forcibly demolished more than 80 houses along the Mandalay-Mattaya road in Kwa Ni Kan village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, using excavators and bulldozers under the pretext of road expansion. According to local sources, over 50 military personnel systematically destroyed houses on both the eastern and western sides of the main road during a three-day operation from March 4 to March 6. The demolition was carried out without any prior notice to the residents.
The military council conducted these demolitions suddenly without any advance warning to the homeowners. Residents were not allowed to remove their belongings before the destruction, resulting in significant property losses, as confirmed by an official from MDY Revolution. According to local residents, most were unaware that their homes would be demolished, and the sudden military operation caused severe hardship for the affected families. The military claimed the houses were on road reserve land, but residents dispute this justification for the forced evictions.
Furthermore, military personnel threatened and arrested some local residents who attempted to document the demolitions by taking photographs. Armed Pyu Saw Htee members warned against photographing the destruction and threatened to take action against anyone trying to record the incidents. Local residents point out that these actions demonstrate the military council’s attempts to cover up their brutal destruction of civilian properties. The demolitions have left numerous families displaced and without shelter, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the military council’s actions against civilians.
