The military council has forcibly demolished more than 80 houses along the Mandalay-Mattaya road in Kwa Ni Kan village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, using excavators and bulldozers under the pretext of road expansion. According to an official from MDY Revolution, the demolition was carried out by over 50 military personnel over three days from March 4 to March 6, systematically destroying homes on both the eastern and western sides of the main road. The operation was conducted without any prior notice to local residents, who were caught completely off guard by the sudden destruction of their homes.
During the demolition, residents were not allowed to salvage their belongings from their homes, resulting in significant property losses. The military personnel also detained some civilians who attempted to photograph the demolition process, while armed Pyu Saw Htee members threatened others to prevent them from documenting the destruction. This aggressive action has left dozens of families displaced and without shelter, forcing them to relocate to other areas with minimal possessions.
The illegal and forceful demolition of these residential properties has created severe hardships for the local population, who are now facing both housing and livelihood challenges. More than 80 households have lost their homes and been forced to seek shelter elsewhere, demonstrating another instance of the military council’s disregard for civilian property rights and well-being. The affected families are now struggling to find alternative accommodation and dealing with the sudden loss of their homes and possessions, according to local residents.
