The military council has forcibly demolished more than 80 houses along the Mandalay-Mattaya road in Kwa Ni Kan village, Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, using excavators and bulldozers under the pretext of road expansion. According to a representative from MDY Revolution, the military forces carried out the demolition over three days from March 4 to March 6, deploying more than 50 soldiers to systematically destroy homes on both the eastern and western sides of the main road.
The military council conducted these demolitions without any prior notice to the residents, preventing them from removing their belongings before destroying their homes. This has resulted in significant losses for the affected families. During the demolition, the military personnel and their affiliated Pyu Saw Htee members threatened and arrested some civilians who attempted to photograph the destruction, explicitly forbidding any documentation of their actions. The military’s use of force and intimidation has left many families homeless and without their possessions.
The affected homes belonged to families who had been living in the area for many years, and they are now facing severe housing difficulties. The residents have lost not only their homes but also valuable possessions and household items that they were not allowed to retrieve. This act of destruction, carried out under the guise of road expansion, demonstrates the military council’s continued oppression of civilians. The sudden and forced eviction has caused significant distress among the local community, who had no opportunity to prepare for or protest against the demolition of their homes. This incident represents another example of the military council’s brutal actions against its own people, leaving families displaced and their livelihoods destroyed without any compensation or alternative housing arrangements.
