The military council is implementing a lottery system to force young people into military service, threatening that those selected will be immediately entered into the National Service Information Management System (NSIMS) with no chance of escape. During military service recruitment lottery events in Mandalay, military majors have warned that those selected will have their names instantly registered in the computer system, meaning their information will be available at airports, ports, bus terminals, and checkpoints, making escape impossible. Local residents report that these threats are being used to intimidate young people into compliance.
According to the military council’s statements, once individuals are entered into the computer system, they will be banned from traveling abroad and will require special permits for domestic travel. They claim that wherever people go, their names and national registration numbers in the computer system will identify them as military service recruits, making attempts to escape futile. The council insists that individuals must serve for two years. The military council has confirmed that the National Service Information Management System has been established and connected through computer networks, and the system is now fully operational.
In Ngwe Taw Kyun Ward of Pyigyitagon Township, Mandalay Region, the military and administrative bodies have announced a lottery for military service recruitment to be held on March 30. They have mandated that all young people or their parents must attend, warning that the military service recruitment team will make decisions on behalf of those who fail to appear. While the ward administrator and their relatives are reportedly exempt from military service, ordinary citizens are being forced to attend the lottery. The authorities have even posted notices on uninhabited houses, threatening to seal off homes if residents don’t participate. Local residents report that even those who are ill are being forcibly recruited for military service, highlighting the increasingly aggressive recruitment tactics being employed by the military council.
