A military convoy of over 1,000 troops moving from Pakokku to Pauk in Magway Region has been burning and looting villages along their route, according to a People’s Democratic Army (PDA) official. The military column, which departed from Infantry Division 101 in Pakokku in early June, is moving toward Pauk town with a supply convoy. Along their path, they have been conducting military operations in villages, looting civilian property, and using civilians as human shields.
Currently, the military column has entered Kamma town and nearby villages, where they are systematically looting civilian homes and properties. The convoy includes over 140 vehicles and more than 1,000 military personnel. The military forces have also burned down five resistance camps, including the PDA Battalion 219 base. While no military equipment was lost, food supplies donated by civilians worth nearly 10 million kyats were destroyed in the attacks.
Since June 23, the military has split into two columns to conduct offensive operations in Nyaung-U Township. One column from Taungzin Police Station and another from Nyaung-U town, equipped with armored vehicles, have been attacking and burning villages. On June 24, military forces burned down Zaymagyi village in Nyaung-U Township, which had over 100 households. Fortunately, villagers had already fled before the military arrived, avoiding capture.
Due to these military operations, nearly 10,000 civilians from about 20 villages, including Zaymagyi, Zipyinpin, Yatawgyi, Myaung, Gyokan, and Kyaukkan in Nyaung-U Township, have been forced to flee their homes. Local residents report widespread fear and anxiety among the displaced population due to the military council’s brutal actions and ongoing campaign of violence against civilians.
