Local sources report that the military council is forcibly ordering the relocation of shops near the Township Police Station in Ward 3 of Pathein City, Ayeyarwady Region. On June 30, military personnel issued eviction orders to eleven shops located adjacent to the police station on Maha Bandula Road. Among the affected businesses is a mobile phone shop owned by a military officer, which was also included in the eviction notice.
At 8:30 AM today, military personnel, police, fire department officials, and municipal authorities posted eviction notices citing Section 3 of the 1955 Government Premises Eviction Act. The military council has also notified shop owners near the Nine Hundred Sports Ground that they must relocate their businesses. According to local residents, the military’s actions appear to be motivated by security concerns about potential attacks on the police station, leading them to clear the surrounding area. The shops have not yet been demolished, but notices have been posted and sealed this morning.
Additionally, at 1 PM today, military-appointed administrators held a meeting with more than 20 shop owners from the food stall area near the Kyauk Tine Football Field. This forced relocation of businesses is viewed by locals as another form of military oppression, significantly impacting the livelihoods and economic stability of local residents. The military council’s actions continue to demonstrate their disregard for civilian welfare and their use of administrative power to exert control over local communities, causing significant disruption to the daily lives and economic activities of Pathein’s residents.
