On the morning of August 6, military council forces conducted a raid on Thonebo village in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, arresting more than thirty civilians and burning down houses, according to local sources. The military troops, numbering around seventy personnel, entered the village after advancing from Makauk Pyu village in Shwebo Township, as confirmed by a representative from the Wetlet Township Village Elders Group.
While some villagers managed to escape during the military’s entrance into Thonebo village, others were captured and are being used as human shields by the forces. Currently, almost the entire village population has been forced to flee, while the military council troops systematically burn down houses within the village. The exact number of destroyed homes and the safety status of the detained villagers cannot yet be confirmed.
According to local residents, the military council forces have previously conducted similar raids on villages in the region, typically involving arrests, torture of villagers, and the destruction of homes through arson. This latest attack on Thonebo village has resulted in significant losses of life and property for the villagers, who are now seeking refuge in nearby forests due to security concerns.
