The military council forces conducted a raid on Chaungmagyi village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of an innocent woman and the destruction of over twenty houses by arson, according to confirmation from the People’s Defense Force. On June 10, after burning civilian homes in Kyin village, Sagaing Township, the military council forces advanced and invaded Chaungmagyi village.
During their invasion of the village, the military council forces opened fire with small arms on civilians who were attempting to flee from the conflict. As a result of the shooting, a woman named Ma Lin, who was in her 40s, was killed instantly, and two children were injured. Additionally, the forces brutally shot and killed cattle belonging to the villagers and set fire to more than twenty houses, destroying them completely.
According to the information officer of the People’s Defense Force, there may have been civilian arrests, but detailed information cannot be obtained as the military column has not yet withdrawn from the village, making close observation impossible. Approximately 200 civilians from Chaungmagyi village and nearby Kyin village have been forced to flee their homes and are currently displaced in various locations rather than gathering in one place. The officer further stated that Ma Lin’s sister and her sister’s daughter were also injured and are currently still in Chaungmagyi village. The military forces continue to occupy the village, forcing residents from both Chaungmagyi and surrounding villages to remain in displacement.
