
A representative from the Wetlet Information Network has confirmed that the military council forces have killed 27 people, including two monks and 25 civilians, during a four-month military operation targeting 17 villages along the border of Wetlet Township in Mandalay Region and Sagaing Township in Sagaing Region. The military column began its operation on May 28, departing from Mingun area and conducting raids on villages along the Sagaing-Wetlet township border.
The military forces invaded numerous villages including Sint Kaing (South and North), Moegyo, Ywatanhsaung, Thaykyun, Ngayet, Taik Village (Upper and Lower), Talaing, Khetka (East and West), Samun, Kyakhat, Linyin Ywartha, Linyin, Moethauk, Shankun, Kungyi, Nyaungkun, and Yaytwinkang. During these raids, they killed one monk and two civilians from Kin Village, one civilian from Chaungmagyi Village, one civilian from Mezalichaung Village, three civilians from Sheinmaka and Ngayet Villages, three civilians from Ywatanhsaung Village, four civilians from Thaykyun Village, one civilian from Lower Taik Village, four civilians and five internally displaced persons from Talaing Village, and one civilian and one monk from Khetka Village.
During their operations in these villages, the military council forces also conducted arbitrary arrests and torture of civilians. While some detainees were released, the exact number of those still in detention remains unconfirmed. Additionally, the military forces destroyed civilian vehicles, falsely claiming they belonged to People’s Defense Forces. Currently, the military column has reached Monnyint Chaung Village and Nyaungkun Village in Sagaing Township. Local residents have been warned to maintain at least a two-mile distance from the military column and remain vigilant about the risk of airstrikes.
