Military council forces have been committing violent acts against local civilians in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. Beginning March 2, military columns comprising approximately 200 soldiers from Pakokku Division 101 and Battalions 256, 257, and 258 from Yesagyo Township entered Myaysunhtaw village in the river island area. These military columns conducted raids on the village for three consecutive days, during which they arrested and killed 11 civilians, including elderly residents, according to local sources.
Among those killed were nine residents from Myaysunhtaw village: U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Than Pyay (60 years old), Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), U Kyaw Htay (67 years old), U Aung Myint (69 years old), Ko Thant Zin (35 years old), and Ko Aung Linn Naing (40 years old). Additionally, two residents from Malaka Chan village were killed: U Nyunt Way (70 years old) and U San Win (50 years old).
The military council troops looted civilian properties from Myaysunhtaw village, Malaka Chan village, Ywa Thit village, Zayapni village, and Thagaung Lay village, and subsequently burned down residential houses. A representative from the Yesagyo Township Information Committee confirmed these events and suggested that the death toll could be higher, as some bodies may have been burned to destroy evidence.
On the morning of March 9, the same military column proceeded to raid Pannyoe village, forcing residents from nearby villages to flee to safety. Local residents report that the military council’s brutal actions have resulted in the loss of lives, homes, and properties, severely deteriorating the security situation in the region. The ongoing military operations continue to displace civilians and create widespread fear among local communities.
