Military council forces continue to commit acts of violence against local civilians in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, where they have killed 11 civilians during raids on Myaysunhtaw village and surrounding areas in the river island region since March 2. According to local sources, approximately 200 soldiers from the military council’s Pakokku Division 101 and Battalions 256, 257, and 258 from Yesagyo Township conducted operations in Myaysunhtaw village for three consecutive days, during which they arrested and killed civilians, including elderly residents.
Among those killed were nine residents from Myaysunhtaw village, including U Han Tin (over 70 years old), U Htay Myint (60), U Thanmani (88), Daw Than Pyay (60), Daw Hla Ngwe (86), U Kyaw Htay (67), U Aung Myint (69), Ko Thant Zin (35), and Ko Aung Linn Naing (40). Two residents from Malaka Chan village were also killed: U Nyunt Way (70) and U San Win (50). The military council forces looted civilian properties and burned down houses in Myaysunhtaw village, Malaka Chan village, Ywa Thit village, Zayapni village, and Thagaung Lay village.
A representative from the Yesagyo Township Information Committee confirmed that the death toll currently stands at 11 verified casualties, though the actual number could be higher as the military council forces may have burned some bodies to destroy evidence. As of March 9, the same military column has begun raiding Pannyoe village, causing residents in nearby areas to flee for safety. The systematic violence against civilians and destruction of property continues as the military council forces move through the region, forcing local residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge in safer locations.
